Alexey Menushenkov | Condensed Matter Physics | Physics Lifetime Achievement Award

Prof. Alexey Menushenkov | Condensed Matter Physics | Physics Lifetime Achievement Award

Professor in National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Russia

Prof. Alexey Menushenkov is a distinguished physicist whose pioneering contributions have significantly advanced the understanding of high-temperature superconductivity and condensed matter systems. Educated at Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, he developed deep expertise in solid state physics and built a long-standing academic career, progressing from researcher to professor at the same institution. His work is particularly notable for the early application of EXAFS spectroscopy to superconducting oxides, laying foundational insights ahead of major breakthroughs in the field. He proposed an unconventional model of superconductivity based on real-space pairing of charge carriers, offering an alternative to traditional BCS theory. Through extensive experimental and theoretical research, he established correlations between local atomic structure and macroscopic superconducting properties. His leadership in advanced synchrotron and free-electron laser experiments enabled direct validation of his theoretical predictions regarding charge carrier pairing. Further, he demonstrated that the pairing mechanism in BaBiO₃-based materials is electronic rather than phononic in nature, introducing new perspectives on electron correlation effects. Over his career, he has supervised numerous doctoral and master’s students, contributing to the development of future scientists. He has also led major national and international research projects and actively participated in global scientific collaborations and expert councils. With a substantial publication record, strong citation impact, and multiple scientific honors, his work represents a transformative contribution to the ongoing quest to understand the fundamental mechanisms of high-temperature superconductivity.
